Francine's research interests are in information access and machine learning; focused around developing methods for extracting, organizing and finding information in different types of media, including audio, imaged text, images, text, and most recently, video. She was at Xerox PARC for many years as a Member of Research Staff and as Manager of the Quantitative Content Analysis area. Projects that Francine has worked on include topic analysis, keyword advertising, categorization, phrase spotting in imaged text, image retrieval, speech recognition, text and speaker segmentation, and summarization of video, text, imaged text, and conversations. Francine earned her Ph.D. from MIT.
